Wicklow
Wicklow
Cill Mhantáin
Vykyngelo
The Irish origin of Cill Mhantáin is a curious tale involving an attack on the incoming ship of St Patrick and his party. One of his men lost a tooth in the process and when he returned to Wicklow and set up a church, it became known as Church of the Toothless One. The Normans who arrived to these shores much later preferred the Viking name, Vykyngelo, and so it stuck.
Vykyngelo or Meadow of the Vikings is a much more fitting name for what we also refer to as the Garden of Ireland. Extensive woodlands, dramatic glacial valleys carving out the lush landscape, not to mention Ireland’s highest waterfall in Powerscourt. Also featured in my illustration is the Sugarloaf, and the iconic heart shaped Lough Ouler.
Each print is signed, numbered and individually gold leafed*
A2 (594x420mm) limited edition of 32
Printed to archival quality on 210gsm Hahnemühle Fine Art paper (unframed)
*Each print is individually gold leafed and variations will occur
